Truth be told, the first time that I read a blog was in April 2007 when my friend Laura created one, written from the perspective of her newborn son Ciaran. Now, as part of my New Media class, I find myself having to create my own.

When brainstorming topics to blog about, my first idea was to post thoughts/reflections on new experiences as I continue to explore and settle into Washington, DC (I relocated from Seattle in January). I then thought about how I could leverage this new media tool (at least it's new to me!) in order to introduce/connect people to Reliv, a dynamic nutritional product company with which my parents have been involved for over 15 years. Then I thought a little more about my position here at AU (assistant director of employer outreach for the Career Center) and figured that I'd at least experiment with blogging to see if it becomes an effective tool for me in connecting with employers interested in recruiting AU students/alumni. At this point, I don't know if/how many other similar blogs exist, or if recruiters even use blogs for professional purposes, but I suppose that's what I'm hoping to find out...

BTW, before joining AU, I was a recruiter for a marketing communications firm in Seattle (MarketFitz, Inc.) and before that, led the volunteer resources department for the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation - Midwest Chapter in Chicago.
